Two websites I love!

Hey y'all!  I just wanted to post real quick about two websites every fashionista should check out . . .

Polyvore.com lets you create complete fashion outfits with clothes, shoes, and accessories found on the internet.  I just found this site last night and I am already addicted!  I just created my first outfit and I posted it to FB so y'all can tell me what you think.  There's other things you can do on the site as well so go check it out!

I know most of you have already heard of pinterest.com but if you haven't, it is equally addictive!  You can create your own boards and pin things on them that interest you from anywhere on the web.  Recipes, fashion, crafts, books, music . . . it's endless!

These are my two new favorite websites and I will be spending lots of time on them.  I hope y'all like them as much as I do!

Homecoming style . . .

Hey, y'all!  I spent this beautiful Saturday helping style my twin nieces for their high school homecoming dance.  They turned out BEAUTIFUL!!  Here are the photos . . .

Lauren is on the left, Lily on the right.

Here is a close-up of Lauren's make-up and earrings.  Her dress is orange so we went with dramatic colors for her make-up . . . pink, orange and purple.  We chose gold for her accessories and she had her hair curled at Halo Salon.

Red nails are classic and show up well.

Pretty sparkly gold shoes!

We used blue, green and white for Lily's make-up.  And her dress has a peacock pattern so these earrings look great with it!

Her accessories . . .

Gorgeous shoes and pretty toe nails!!

The finished product!

I hate that their make-up doesn't show up well in these photos because it looks fabulous in person!  I did Lily's make-up while my VFS (Very Fashionable Sister), Dee Dee, did Lauren's make-up.  We used mostly Urban Decay products as they are a favorite of ours.  If you are not familiar with this brand, you can find it at Sephora.  Trust me, you will fall in love!!

Ok, Lauren and Lily . . . I hope you beautiful ladies have a great time tonight!  I had a great time styling y'all today!

Port City Rising - Part II

Port City Rising was a success!  As I sat there in my seat watching these awesome musicians sing and play their instruments, I was moved.  I felt it from the bottom of my feet to the top of my head.  My emotions ran the gamut from happy and overwhelmed to sadness and heartache.  These guys put their hearts and souls in each song that was performed and they made you feel it.  That, my friends, is the measure of a great musician.  This was my first time to see and hear most of these guys but I can tell you it won't be my last.

Eric Erdman (Ugli Stick) is fantastic.  That word doesn't do justice to him, but that's the one I'm using.  Every time I hear him I am reminded why I love him like I do.  It's true that I'm partial to him because I do actually know him, but I would love him even if I didn't know him.  The timbre of his voice, the way he plays his guitar, his excitement about the music he is playing . . . it is an experience.  Each and every time I see him, he motivates me.  He gives me the feeling that I want to be doing what he is doing.  It's magic.

Here are a few photos and videos from last night.  I took them with my iPhone so they suck.  One of these days I'm going to remember to take my camera with me!

This is Eric performing Alabama Moon.  The other voice you hear in the chorus is Ross Newell who is amazing in his own right.  I love this song!!

I'm not sure what the actual name of this song is but I call it Bird On A Power Line.  And I love it!!

This is a photo of the first set.  From left to right:  Wes Loper, Josh Ewing (Top Of The Orange), Heath Underwood (El Cantador), Gregg Fells.

This is the second set:  Eric Erdman (Ugli Stick), Les Hall (Phar Fletcher), Ryan Balthrop (Bowlin' Buddies), Ross Newell (Hamelin).

That's it, y'all.  It was an amazing night for me . . . and anyone else that attended.  Bring on Port City Rising II!!

Port City Rising - Part I

Hey, y'all!  I just wanted to post real quick about a fab musical event that I'm attending tonight.  You may or may not have heard about Port City Rising.  It's a songwriter's showcase featuring local Mobile talent.  This event has been organized by Eric Erdman of The Ugli Stick, who is my favorite musician of all time.  The event is taking place at the Joe Jefferson Playhouse in midtown.  This is a small 300-seat venue so I'm especially excited to be able to experience the music in an intimate surrounding.  I have been a fan of The Ugli Stick since its inception and I can't express how proud I am of my friend Eric and the success that he has enjoyed.  He is a truly talented man and I am so excited to see this showcase tonight!  Other's that are invloved include Ross Newell of Hamelin, Ryan Balthrop of Loose Cannons, Les Hall of Phar Fletcher, Wes Loper, Heath Underwood of El Cantador, Josh Ewing of Top of the Orange, and Gregg Fells.  I hope to see some of you there tonight!  I plan on posting about this event again tomorrow so I can make all of you jealous that aren't attending!  Thanks, y'all!

A great documentary and some must-reads . . .

Hey, y'all!  I wanted to mention a few things real quick . . .

My VFSIL (Very Fashionable Sister-In-Law) called my attention to a great documentary that is on Netflix right now.  The September Issue is about Vogue fashion magazine's process surrounding the publication of the September issue - hence the name of the documentary.  :)  It not only follows the process from the ideas to the actual shoots but it also gives you a sneak peak inside the life of Anna Wintour, Vogue's Editor-In-Chief.  She is the single most important woman in fashion according to . . . well, everyone!  It is a great documentary and I recommend that every fashionista should watch it!

Secondly, my VFF (Very Fashionable Friend) reminded me of a series of books that are among my favorites.  The Shopaholic Series by Sophie Kinsella is some of the most hilarious books I have read!  The first book in the series, Confessions of a Shopaholic, introduces you to Rebecca Bloomwood.  She is the main character in each of the books.  I can tell you that the situations she gets herself in and the way she deals with them will make you laugh out loud!  Some of you may remember the movie by the same name that came out a few years ago.  It DOES NOT do the series justice!  You have to read the books!  You can get the full run-down on Sophie Kinsella's website, http://www.sophiekinsella.co.uk/.  She has also written other books under a different name and I have enjoyed those as well.

Lastly, I was lucky enough to experience some fresh, young musical talent on Friday night.  I was at a local italian restaurant, Gambino Bros., enjoying the food and karoake when a young man took the stage.  He sang a song he had written himself and it was awesome!  I don't know if he is the composer of the music that accompanied the song but if he is, this guy is multi-talented.  His name is Sutton Steele and he is a teenager that attends Theodore High School.  I am told that he will be performing at BayFest this year so you guys that are attending need to check him out.  I also want to give a shout out to my niece, Lauren Little, who is the reason I was at Gambino Bros.  She sang Adele's Rolling In the Deep and she killed it!  Good job, Lauren!  Now go do some homework.  :)

That's all, fashionista's!  I hope y'all have a great week!

Saturday's are meant for shopping . . .

Hello, fellow fashionistas!  I spent this beautiful day doing what makes me happy - shopping!  I started out in Fairhope, AL where I met my fashionable friend for her birthday lunch.  Her choice was Panini Pete's and I have to say she chose well.  We both had the special which was a pannini full of tomatoes (including green ones), bacon, fresh mozzarella cheese and a garlic aioli sauce.  It was divine!  Pannini Pete's is a definite must when going to Fairhope!

Our big score of the day came when we happened upon Shoefly, a shoe boutique.  They were having a clearance sale and all shoes were $5 - $30!  I bought three pair!

This is the first pair I decided on.  The brand is Cocobelle and the retail price was $72.00.  I got them for $15.  It's hard to tell from the picture, but there is a snake print on the leather.  These shoes are very versatile.  The color is natural but the snake print is a gray/black combination.  So, you can wear these with browns, blacks, navy blue, pink, etc.  I put them on after I bought them and they went well with the white linen dress I was wearing.  And they are so comfortable!
The second pair I chose are black and white striped, peep toe, sling back wedges.  That's kind of a mouth-full!  The brand is Bidi and the retail price is $62.  Again, I paid $15.  The wedge is made out of a braided straw-like material.  These would be very cute with a red dress.  I'm going to wear them with crisp white pants and a black sleeveless draped-neck cotton shirt.  I can't wait!

And finally, these are the third pair I chose.  The brand is Very Volatile and the retail price is $84.  I paid $20.  I really like the thick heel on these shoes.  I need all the stability I can get!  I can't make up my mind what I'm going to pair these with, but at $20 who cares?!  I'm sure I can find something.  :)

But, my shopping day doesn't end there.  My VFS (Very Fashionable Sister) called me as I was leaving Fairhope.  She was having an FE (Fashion Emergency) and needed my help!  So I made my way to the ESC (Eastern Shore Center) to meet her at CC (Charming Charlie's).  Ok - enough with the acronyms.  Anyway, she needed my help in accessorizing her twin daughter's homecoming dresses and I was happy to oblige.  Homecoming is next weekend.  I don't want to give away any of their surprises so I will wait until then to post pictures.

All in all, I had a wonderful day of shopping.  I enjoyed seeing all the new fall shoes and boots that were on display everywhere.  Maybe I'll include some of my favorites in my next post.

Until then, stay stylish y'all!

My first blog . . .

Hey, y'all!  From that greeting, it's obvious I'm from the South!  I've started this blog because I absolutely love to talk about fashion.  It is my most favorite thing in this world.  (Other than my family, of course!)  So, I will be talking about that A LOT.

I'm also a huge music lover and I don't discriminate - I like it all! I encourage everyone I know to broaden their musical horizons.  (Hayes Carll, anyone?)  So, I will be discussing music on this blog as well.

Last but not least, books, magazines and newspapers!  I read everything I can get my hands on.  I prefer Chick Lit but I will read autobiographies and non-fiction occasionally.  And I subscribe to LOTS of magazines - InStyle (a.k.a. The Fashion Bible), Glamour, Cosmo, AllYou, Architechtural Digest, Rolling Stone, Shape, and Southern Living.  Yep, A Lil' Bit of Everything!  Lol!

So, stay tuned for thoughts, pictures, videos, etc. on all of these topics.  And any other topics I wish to discuss!  Thanks, y'all!!
